A tense standoff in a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood ended with a father in handcuffs.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office’s Special Response Team responded to the scene of a domestic incident on Southwest 122nd Avenue and 20th Terrace, Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said 33-year-old Brice Martinez barricaded himself in an apartment after he hurt his three children.

According to the arrest report, the suspect was caring for his children, ages 8, 5 and 2, when he became upset with the 5-year-old and slammed his head into the wall three times, causing a large cut.

The arrest report states Martinez threw the 2-year-old to the concret floor, causing the toddler to hit his back.

The arrest report further states the suspect became angry with the 8-year-old for attempting to render aid to his siblings and punched him on the right side of his face with a closed fist, causing a contusion.

The 5-year-old boy was taken to the hospital, whenhis laceration required five staples, and his brothers were checked out by paramedics.

Martinez is now behind bars at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and faces child abuse charges.
