Construction continues on the Al and Jane Nahmad Women’s Cancer Center at Baptist Health’s Kendall campus, with topping out of the building structure planned for September and completion expected by December 2026.
The cutting-edge, 155,000-square-foot facility remains on track to open as scheduled, expanding access to specialized cancer care tailored to women’s needs in South Florida. The new center will boost the capabilities of Baptist Health’s Miami Cancer Institute (MCI) with a dedicated focus on breast, gynecological and skin cancers which disproportionately affect women and constitute a significant portion of the Institute’s patient population.
Last fall, Baptist Health broke ground on the outpatient facility housed within the new four-story Keeley Pavilion at the hospital’s Kendall campus. Designed with a contemporary, light-filled aesthetic to support a more calming and compassionate patient experience, the center’s services will include chemotherapy, reconstructive surgery, Mohs skin cancer surgery, diagnostic imaging and clinical trials all under one roof. The building will also include diagnostic imaging, exam rooms, medical and administrative offices, a shared lobby, café and a boutique.
Named for Al and Jane Nahmad, longtime supporters whose donation helped launch the project, the center addresses the growing demand for cancer care as the region’s population rapidly increases. Baptist Health emphasized that while the project has strong philanthropic backing, continued community support is crucial to fully realize the center’s vision and sustain its growth.
“Philanthropy plays a vital role in fueling our growth and advancing extraordinary healthcare. Thanks to the generosity of our donors – and a transformational gift from the Nahmad Family – we have proudly broken ground on the Al and Jane Nahmad Women’s Cancer Center,” the health system said. “We are deeply grateful for their support and for the unwavering commitment of our community, which is helping Baptist expand access to cutting-edge care for today and generations to come. As we continue this inspiring journey, ongoing philanthropic support remains essential to bringing the full vision of the center to life.”
In its July 2024 announcement of the project, Baptist Health described the center as “the first of its kind in our region,” saying it will allow MCI “to expand clinical teams, conduct more research trials and harness the world’s most cutting-edge cancer-fighting technology to bring the best care to more patients in Florida – where demand for care is outpacing available resources – as well as Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond.”
The statement continued, “The Women’s Cancer Center will not only address the needs of current patients but will also shape the future trajectory of female cancer treatment in which the disease is prevented, detected earlier and treated more effectively.”
The facility will be supported by a new six-story parking garage, No. 13, on the hospital campus’s west end that can accommodate more than 1,000 vehicles. NV2A serves as general contractor, with Arcadis as project architect.
A certificate of occupancy is anticipated by mid-November 2026, setting the stage for patient services to begin soon thereafter.
