Police are investigating a violent crash in Miami that sent a Miami Police officer and two pedestrians to the hospital, officials said.

City of Miami Police and Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the two-vehicle collision in the area of Northwest 47th Avenue and Seventh Street, near Blue Lagoon, at around 6:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Investigators said the police officer was traveling eastbound when the driver of a Toyota sedan who was traveling westbound attempted to make a turn, and their vehicles collided.

“The officer was traveling eastbound on Northwest 47th Avenue, and the other vehicle was traveling westbound, attempting to make a left turn to go south on Northwest 47th Avenue and Seventh Street,” said Miami Police Officer Kiara Delva.

Police said two women who were walking in the area were injured, but it remains unclear how they were hit.

Fire rescue officials said paramedics transported one of the pedestrians to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. Crews took the second civilian victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital with lacerations to the leg. She is listed in stable condition.

Officials said the police officer involved was transported to Ryder Trauma as a precaution and is stable.

Back at the scene of the incident, 7News cameras captured the Toyta sedan with extensive damage and the police cruiser banged up on its side.

Officers shut down Northwest Seventh Street between 43rd and 51st avenues in both directions, as well as Northwest 47th Avenue between Sixth and 11th streets. They urge drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Police have not provided further details about the crash, as they continue to investigate.

“The circumstances surrounding what led up to the crash do remain under investigation,” said Delva.
